3 necklace styles that steeped in history

necklaces have a rich history that dates back thousands of years. they were first worn by ancient civilizations as a symbol of status, wealth, and power. during the renaissance period, necklaces evolved from being simple adornments to becoming fashionable accessories. this era saw the introduction of new designs, gemstones, and precious metals in necklace crafting!

throughout history, there have been several remarkable moments when famous people wore jewerly. we have already wrote an article about moments in politics where woman impact wearing powerful jewels and also about moments in history when pearls blew our minds. today I’ll write about three necklace styling options along with historical moments when those styles had a lasting impact.

1. PEDANT NECKLACES: a classic style.
pendants are derived from the primitive practice of wearing amulets or talismans around the neck as a symbol of luck. nowadays, from classic and minimalist designs to more intricate and statement pieces, there is a pendant style for everyone! let’s talk about some of the most remarkable pendant necklaces.

one of the most famous necklaces in the world is the "tiffany diamond" necklace. this yellow pendant diamond necklace, weighing 128.54 carats, has been worn by several famous women, including audrey hepburn, beyoncé and lady gaga.

3. CHOKERS: embracing an eye-catching look.

many people believe the choker style originated in the 1790s during the french revolution. curious right? the martyrs' wives wore red ribbons as a tribute to those who died… but there are also references to anne boleyn, queen of england, wearing chokers in her portraits during her reigning era, and this was much before the french revolution.

taking inspiration from the queen, many socialites and high-profile dignitaries of the time started wearing chokers as a mark of their social status. their choker necklaces were mainly made with diamonds. before this, in the 1940s, chokers made of leather, lace, ribbon, and velvet.

since the 90s, choker necklaces have only been soaring in their popularity! post-2015, they made a huge comeback on the runway with major international designers. to be honest chokers doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon!
